Technical Assistance Program Projects

Several municipalities in New Jersey, participated in the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority (NJTPA) Complete Streets Technical Assistance (CSTA) Program from 2018- 2020. The CSTA Program selected municipalities to receive up to $10,000 in technical assistance to advance complete streets projects. The NJTPA worked with Charles Brown of Equitable Cities, who served as a senior researcher/principal investigator with the Alan M. Voorhees Transportation Center (VTC), and Sustainable Jersey (SJ) to provide technical assistance.

These reports identify potential infrastructure improvements to create safe and attractive pedestrian and bicycle corridors and facilities. Municipalities requested Bicycle Network Plans, Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED), Walkable Community Workshops, Pedestrian Safety Demonstration Projects, and Greenway Plans. The recommendations in these reports were developed using a collaborative process with municipal stakeholders and the public to identify existing conditions that pose obstacles to safe pedestrian and bicycle travel and develop practical solutions that enhance safety for all roadway users. Municipal officials may use these plans and images to facilitate discussions with the public and county officials, which would need to approve changes to any county roads, to assist in moving the projects from concept to reality.
